I have been coaching people in the realm of building Niche Websites, Driving Traffic and Promoting Products online for years now; so, not to toot my own horn, but I'm uniquely qualified to tell you why people fail and why people succeed. Believe it or not, there are certain patterns, mindsets and personalities that do better than others.
But this isn't going to be a post about those traits that succeed.
What this post is about is something more direct. It's a way to learn quicker and learn those skills THAT WORK.
The key is to stop and look around you. There are a ton of people you can emulate that are doing the things you wish to do. Find and surveillance those people. (not literally of course!)

Reading training materials is an important thing if you are doing a specific method of generating an income or building a business.. you have to pick up everything you can to learn the 'ins and outs' of stuff.
Watching videos, listening to audios, reading forums... all good stuff.
And of course, you have to do it yourself. The GREATEST lessons comes from just diving in and getting your feet wet. That's especially true when you are learning skills in advertising, marketing and selling to a wide range of markets. Different markets demand different approaches. Even down to the landing page and copy. So those things you learn yourself by 'doing'.
But there is something else that can catapult you to the success you desire that isn't quite so in your face; it can even be elusive.. you have to dig for it and be a bit more patient gathering what you need.
And that is >> Learning from what others are *DOING*
Holy Smokes that's powerful! And I'm not talking about watching Gurus.. although you can pick up great lessons in watching what they do rather than just what they are saying.
I'm talking about regular, everyday folk just like you.
There is a virtual gold mine of information and tips out there, but you just need to know where to find it. And a lot of it comes from regular, everyday individuals doing it!
The starting point is looking for specialists. Even in public forums which are chuck full of 'KnowItAlls", you can find people that specialize and, as you'll soon pick up, are very good at specific methods or biz models.
These aren't necessarily just people that are selling a product teaching things in their field. They are often just regular people doing what they are doing and just helping others because they want to.
But now if you go into a forum like we have at Campaign Blasts for example which is private, you will find yourself on an entirely different level. People are truly making money using the 'specific' methods we're using AND you can interact with them right there! Or you can browse many success stories and tips that have accumulated over the years.
We have challenges where you see EXACTLY what people are doing.. and you can even ask them questions and many times get very detailed information about what they are doing - that you could go out and replicate. You'll also see and read success secrets.. maybe that don't appear to be important on the surface, but contribute in a big way to that individuals success (whether it's attitude or approach..).
Just learn from how they attack what they are doing! Note their energy and focus.
And we're talking regular, like-minded people.. people like YOU.
People I've coached over the years that make a lot of money today come from a HUGE range of backgrounds.. Some have been or are accountants, engineers, start doing this stuff straight out of college, were in retail, were bartenders OR were in between jobs.
Understand, there are probably many people that were exactly where you are right now that are highly successful today. So feel good about that.
Many, many, many (including myself..) started out learning and implementing what's taught while still working at their jobs and/or running their other non-related businesses. They set a goal, achieved it.. and were able to leave that job or business they didn't want to be in anymore.
It not only could be done.. or can be done.. it's BEEN done. I've seen it with my own two eyes AND I've lived it.
So if you haven't found success yet...
If you aren't sure where to turn or whom to listen to..
Latch on to those that are getting their hands dirty. Look for those that are walking their walk and sharing their trade.
You can't ever get ALL the secrets. For example, you aren't going to know exactly what markets these individuals are in or what products they are successful with (for what I hope is obvious reasons).. but you can learn HOW they found those things and what they do today to manage and build on what they are doing.
Pick up their habits, routines and ideas.
Learn from them.. watching and listening to them..
And then emulate what they are doing. By doing this your ride to success, I can almost guarantee, will quicken.
Good Luck!

@Dr. Ann Voisin - point well taken.
I would add.. many BIG companies started out as a simple idea in someone's garage or sitting on a park bench. Even someone with little funds, but are determined and resourceful can do big things.
Study the back story of those that have made it from nothing; or from where you are at. What did they do? What are they doing? What habits did they have? How hard did they work?
How did determination play a roll?
Mingle with them, ask them questions.. get to know their processes and general direction; and commit to emulate them.
It's far better than just reading a book or some articles and blindly finding your own way.

Motivation and Success - Success
I certainly agree with the philosophy that DOING what other successful people are doing is the way to succeed.
On the other hand, more and more we are finding that what people with cash are doing is investing in the stock of companies who then have the resources to do lots of things that very few individual entrepreneurs could ever dream of doing. (95% of all stock on the New York Stock Exchange are owned by 5% of the public.)
For example, two years ago one American entrepreneur of whom we are aware needed an engineering problem solved. His only resource was a fine American engineer working in his city. The cost for the engineering work was far more than the entrepreneur could afford.
At the same time, a multinational was approaching the same problem. They turned it over to a subsidiary in India that has several engineers on staff. Their average wage is $15,000 per year, which is 25 times the average wage in India.
Result, the American entrepreneur had no choice but to drop the project. The company on the other hand will be marketing a new product very shortly.
Bottom line: Money, wisely used, in most instances is the answer. 95% of the American public don't have much. After expenses, 80% of American families have nothing.
