I had a conversation recently with someone who was being told by some others that building networks of niche websites didn't make sense; that she should focus.
And that may seem like sound advice on the surface, but the truth is that the number of sites you run doesn't have anything to do with *if* you are focusing or not. And it's not inherently a bad thing.
Just like a real estate investor has multiple properties...
Just like a stock investor has multiple securities...
Just like an offline entrepreneur own's multiple businesses...
And just like a niche marketer owns and runs multiple websites...
It's irrelevant. What's relevant though is that you have a plan for those sites and have a focused strategy to make money and develop them. This might even include recruiting help, outsourcing and automating a lot of your processes. It definitely includes having a good system to find great, easy to manage niche markets to focus on and using simplified methods to monetize them.
Many niche sites, because they are hyper-focused, don't need hours and hours of work every day or even every week. Once they are up and the initial work was done to choose a hot niche in an open market.. and some link building was done.. it will start to succeed in a very short time frame and not much else needs to be done accept some regular content work and link building..
That's the great thing about this business is a lot of income can be on auto-pilot once you've done the up front work.
One Giant Authority site with 1000s of pages... that could actually be the same or even much MORE work than a 100 focused niche sites with 1000s of pages.
So none of that matters.
Where the focus comes in is having:
You aren't focused if you are jumping from one profit opportunity to the next. If you are following every product launch and following the herd from one thing to another, you probably aren't focused.
If you spend 15 minutes on something, get bored and go play on your Wii system for the next couple hours with no set hours or a commitment to getting things checked off your To Do list, you probably aren't focused.
So how much you do doesn't matter. It's simply if you have a good set up to get it done. You can do a tremendous amount across many small to large ventures if you are organized and have a great plan to get it done.
