You might ask, “What does ‘niche discovery’ have to do with ‘Conversions’?”

My answer would be, “Conversions are 100% dependent on your initial efforts picking the niche. Bad niche = bad conversions. It’s hard to build a business based on a bad niche and direction. Plain and simple.”

So THAT is why I’ve made this video a central piece. I want to help you get better conversions and provides you lots and lots of tips and training over time, but I’d like to have you start with a GREAT foundation.. and with some sales to build on from day one.

• OneLung Thin Site System – note, this system is a little more technical in nature to pull it off. You will be building eBay, Amazon or other affiliate sites on a large scale. If you have a foundational understanding of building sites (you will be building 100s of them), getting them up on the web, managing servers etc, it’ll be a bonus. Certainly you could learn all that after joining, but just so you know that up front that you might have to spend extra time learning depending on your starting skill level.

Get involved with the community.. study the WSO’s posted on a daily basis. Look for things that get great feedback and sales.. and do similar promotions and offerings.

What else do I recommend or might you get started with?

Idea #1 – When I first started online back in ’03/04, I built one large, broad, website where I could have a large variety of content and monetization on it. I had article areas where I created articles on a range of topics and tied those into related affiliate links.. I had courses and other features to help monetize the site in a variety of ways. I did a LOT of testing and it helped my come up with ideas for spin off niche sites and efforts. And it got me noticed.. it became a brand for me, helped me develop authority and relationships with other marketers.

Idea #2 – Help others for free first.. many opportunities I got early on was after I devoted and invested a lot of time helping others in various communities online for free.

Idea #3 – Don’t forget this concept can be applied to many things including services and freelancing. When I first got started doing web design, web programming, web dev stuff as a freelancer, I tested various sources for business; different freelance sites etc… I tried different things to get that business, constantly tweaked my profile, applied to a range of jobs, observed what other providers were doing,.. until I found a niche that I could compete in, had sufficient knowledge/skill with and took it from there to build a business I’ve made thousands with!

Idea #4 – Look for Pay per Click systems that would allow you to test traffic/keywords/campaigns. Make sure it has a low cost per test. Even if it’s learning how to build an authority site that Google loves, you could make it broad enough to where you could test 1000s of products and categories on one site (review sites, price comparison).

Idea #5 – Look for other website models (similar to OLT) that can help you quickly and efficiently launch niche sites or efforts to test a range of market categories and niches.

Hybrid Funnel

Over-time we’ll be talking a LOT about how to improve your conversions here in the Conversions Academy. There are a lot of elements that influence sales. From your headlines to a solid ‘call to action’. But here’s the thing. None of it doesn’t matter if in 3 months you will be consumed by an entirely different model.

What I want to encourage you to do is start thinking long-term and in this series I’m going to drive home how that’s done and what I believe to be the best approach to online business.

If you apply this approach, it serves as a great foundation that is primed for testing and improving conversions over time.. You’ll naturally build greater authority and influence both with your market and your traffic channels which will lead to greater profits for you. Which, again, means greater conversion rates and profits!

I will be referring to this model going forward as the Hybrid Funnel. It’s taking your traditional ‘funnel’ a little bit further by adding the importance of diversification and depth in your business.

Hi, — Some quick updates for you!

Biggest news.. there’s a new tutorial waiting for you called, “12 Basic Keys to Conversion Success”.  This is the 2nd video in the Conversions Basics series.  (length is roughly 10 minutes)  Watch it here

My goal is to produce and post at least one video a week going forward.  Or it should at least average out to that.

NEW PLAYER & NEW SECURITY

When I decided to launch a new membership, I made a decision up front.  I was going to do it right.  No shortcuts and no ignoring the important stuff.  Being that I have fewer eggs in my basket, it’s easier to follow through on the promise to myself.

To avoid having an unprofessional delivery of content, namely videos, I hunted for a solution that would allow me to present them better.  But then I also wanted to make sure they were secure!  Up until now, I have been using “Amazon S3″ for file delivery for a long time, but I never took the time to secure the links.

I remembered my good friend “Wil Mattos”, had a wordpress solution for this called, S3FlowShield.  It’s a tremendous solution that integrates with Amazon’s and allows me to protect links, stream video and more!

So going forward, that’s what you’ll see.   You’ll see it in action on the Conv Basics series page.

To make watching the videos even better, I have configured it to open in a shadow box window.  So the videos can be a little bigger without breaking the page.  And I still have a download link for those of you that prefer or require that.

A great step forward I think!

FINAL NOTES

I am integrating a plugin/solution into wordpress that will allow me to test up to 6 variations of my sales page (or any page for that matter).   This solution is about as good as they come.. it’s very robust and offers some real depth with the features.

I’ll reveal what I’m using and go in depth soon!  Stay tuned.

I suspended this series. The topics covered in the above videos should still be valuable! I’m just going to be approaching all of these ‘basics’ in a different way. Which.. I’ve rolled out or am rolling out as you read this.

I developed this child theme for your personal use.

What you are getting is a child theme that works with the Startbox framework. So you technically get two themes. One is the parent theme and the second is the child theme. In doing this, you can keep the core files and theme always up to date without worrying so much about breaking the styles and design.

This first theme is basic; over time I’ll provide you a range of designs, styles and layouts. It is similar to one of the child themes Startbox includes in their membership. I used it as a starting point and made some design changes. Although I may continue to use their child themes as inspiration, future designs will be less similar and will be developed 100% by me.

You can download the theme files here:

• Startbox Master (there’s a button above the list of files called zip.. click that) – this is your parent theme which you’ll want to install first.
• nwPhoenix – this is your child theme
• Images-psd – this contains your logo files in 3 formats (jpg, png, psd)
• nwPhoenix WP Twin Clone – if you own WP Twin, you can use this clone. Benefit being it also includes set configurations and essential plugins.

If you need help with any of those files, just let me know. If you just download the master and child themes, you’ll need to install wordpress first on your domain. Then just install them like you would any theme. You can go into the theme admin, upload..

I will be providing more help and a tutorial related to this theme combination. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please utilize the support forum or post below in comments.

As I mentioned a few days ago in an update, I will be releasing a wordpress theme (child) for members. I’m currently fixing some issues, but in the meantime, I recorded a 7 minute tutorial detailing how to update your plugins, themes and wordpress itself. And I provide some suggestions in terms of how often to check for updates.

P.S. It’s good to be back creating videos again! One of my favorite things to do for my members.

I wanted to quickly emphasis for you, the membership, the real game changer here. What had to change in my mind to explode forward with my signups/conversions.

“Popups, even slideins, drive me CRAZY! ..I immediately leave a page if there is one”

“Thin sites? …people say they convert, but I would NEVER stay on a site that looked like that!”

Guess what? You aren’t your traffic, your visitors, your market.. let them make the decision if they like something.

Actually some won’t right? Some will think like you. Many more won’t though. Many will see the slidein that would have never seen your inline. Many will see ‘exactly’ what they were looking for in that product display on your thin site and click through.. they don’t care or even know what thin is? They are looking for oven mitts.. and you have a pic of one that looks like the right fit. << click!

Note: I’m not recommending building thin sites here (although it is a legit model).. I’m just using it as an example to illustrate. I could just as easily use Squeeze Pages as an example. They convert better for a reason.

Let’s revisit that.. your visitors aren’t usually marketers (unless you are targeting the IM niche, but even then, not all are seasoned or think about this stuff..). All they know is you put in front of them something that gets them excited or interested.

You might lose a few people because you have a slidein or other situation.. but if it means you gain 10x that many results than you would otherwise?.. well, which would you choose?

Testing, trying new things, tweaking our processes and methods over time is going to be a big theme here at the Conversions Academy. If you just take a wild guess on how to do something and leave it at that, conversions will suffer.. and/or you’ll never see the potential that your projects could present.

So try and test new things.. and sometimes that means getting out of your comfort zone and your personal preferences.
